The Town of Bethel Transfer/Recycling Station (dump or landfill) is open seven days a week 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Closed major holidays. Transfer Station accepts cash or checks.

The transfer station is for Bethel residents only. All cars entering the transfer station must have a permit. The permits are free and can be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office.
The Transfer station will accept household garbage, used oil, junk metal products, recyclables, car batteries, tires. Bulk Waste (mattresses, couches, etc.) will no longer be accepted as of November 1, 2005 and must be taken to any County Facility.
Household garbage is $2.50 up to a 30 gallon bag unless coupons are purchased. The discounted rate for coupons is $2.00 up to a 30 gallon bag. Anything larger than a 30-gallon bag is either $5.00 or 2 coupons. Coupons can be purchased; one book of 15 is $30.00 at the Town Hall (cash, check or credit card) or Transfer Station (check or cash), and now online at link above. See Transfer Station Guidelines below for details.
There is a Salvation Army bin for clothes and small items. Recyclables (#1 through #7 plastic, glass, and metal cans) are free all year. Now can be placed in one container. Styrofoam is not recyclable, cut up and bag it with household waste.
Newspapers, magazines, and cardboard must be sorted and should be bundled and placed in designated containers. Free.
Refrigerated units (a.c., refrigerators, freezer), ballasts, are accepted for a small fee.
Computer, TV's. monitors, electronic equipment, computers, keyboards, vcrs, dvd players, etc. are free.
Tires are accepted for a small fee.

At no time is construction debris or roof shingles allowed at the Transfer Station.
The Town of Bethel does not have a sanitation department for household pick-up. This is handled by independent waste haulers, check your phone book for area companies.
2024 Clean-up Day (1st Saturday and Sunday in May) (See link to flyer below)
The clean-up allows bulk waste to be dumped at no charge once a year. There is no curbside pick-up. Please sort your items (tires, car batteries, car oil, recyclables, electronics, household waste, and bulk items) they go in separate locations. Check with attendant.
Refrigerated items are $10. (reduced from $15).
Four free tires per household.
Mattress, sofas, toys, rugs, etc. free.
Check with attendant at gate. There may be a delay, please be patient as our staff process everyone. We expect over 400 vehicles each day

Is Styrofoam recyclable? No. Styrofoam peanuts and inserts must be placed in the household waste container.
Is plastic boat wrap recyclable? No. The plastic wrap must be taken the county transfer facility.
Are plastic outdoor toys recyclable? Some are. Look at the bottom for the triangle stamp with the number 1 through 9.
Cat litter goes in with the household waste.
Dead animals - we do not accept.
